Historical Dolls Release and Archive Dates

American Girl has had thirteen (13) historical character dolls (Marie Grace and Cecile are being counted as two), not including dolls' friends. Here are the years each doll was introduced and archived. This list will go in order of their introduction to American Girl, not alphabetical or what year the doll is set in. I will not get into super specific dates, just the years. The original three are not listed in any specific order as they were released at the same time.

All historical dolls except Marie Grace, Cecile, Caroline and Maryellen

  1. Im using the AG books to study history with my 8 and 9 yr old this year as a summer reading program. I really would like to add Rebecca Rubin's books into the summer list. I was wondering what you thought of the beforever books vs the old format with illustrated pictures. I have a mix of the new and old books right now but I don't own Rebecca's and I thought for this particular character illustrated pictures might be nice to show what life was like during that period for an immigrant. What would you suggest?

    1. For those ages, the older format might be better. I haven't looked particularly closely at the BeForever books formatting and illustrations but for your children's ages, the old format is probably better. If they are being introduced to the time period and immigration, Rebecca's older version will be more informative (regarding the time period information added in the back). The newer format appears longer due to six books combined into two. The BeForever books are intended to be more like novels with smaller print. I have heard the BeForever is more seamless but it may also seem more challenging due to appearing longer. You would be able to judge your children's reading abilities and preferences more than I could. An added bonus, if the kids need to reach a certain number of books for their program, using the old format will give them six books instead of two! Thanks for your question! I hope this helps!
